High Street Residential was bringing 152 luxury units to Kirkwood, MO, a city known for its historic character and tight-knit community identity. Bringing luxury apartments to a place like this can cause immediate tension. Build too modern, and you’re seen as erasing the past. Lean too hard into nostalgia, and you fail to attract the renters who seek elevated living. The James needed to honor Kirkwood’s legacy while delivering the modern amenities renters expect, all without feeling like an outsider in a community that values its roots.
